Dr. Madaiah Revana is a Cardiologist from Houston, Texas. He grew up, however, on a farm in a small village in southern India near Bangalore. His family was farmers, and perhaps one can never stray too far from their roots! After completing his fellowship at Baylor University in Dallas, he moved to Houston and established his medical practice. It was then that he fell for Bordeaux wines but, it was after a trip to Tuscany, his passion for owning a winery was born. To his credit, Dr. Revana is a hands-off wine-maker who feels his job is to provide the best resources available to his team. Enough backstory, what I find amazing is that at only 9 acres, differing soil types allow for several different root-stocks and clones of Cabernet Sauvignon; rounded out with Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot all from the same vineyard! This my friends, is almost unheard of, as a range in soil/climate usually requires distance! The vineyard was planted by legendary vineyard manager Jim Barbour. So what do you do with the best vineyards in Napa? Bring in a “wine-god” who’s style lets the vines do the talking! Thomas Rivers Brown achieved success first at Turley. Then he quickly spread to Outpost, Chiarello, Nicholson Ranch and Schrader, among others. In 2008, he became the youngest winemaker in history to receive a perfect 100-point score from Robert Parker – and he won two of them that year. Parker has also given Thomas 25 wines scoring 94 or higher. Revana Estate Cabernet needs to be on your bucket list. Broad and diverse, in today’s world of sci-fi “franken-wines,” it serves as a reminder of how to make a bottle of fantastic wine!

Alexana Pinot Gris Willamette Valley 2015

The mouthfeel is plush and yields a wonderful minerality, leading to bright flavors of kiwi, starfruit, cantaloupe, wet stone and suggestions of baked apple. The structure of this wine is absolutely gorgeous and pushes the envelope of what the grape can do!
